My Journey to Counselling and Psychotherapy

For as long as I can remember, I have found that when we most need to talk, it is not easy to find someone who will listen. When we are feeling overwhelmed, frightened, grief-stricken, traumatised or anxious for example, most of us feel the need to have our struggles recognised. What we most need to hear at these times, is “tell me”.  It allows us time to process what is going on for us, to feel seen and to work out a way forward.  Having found that therapy helped at times of struggle in my own life, This belief led me towards wanting to offer this space to others.

My Mission as a Therapist

I believe that everyone has a story which needs to be told. I want to listen to that story, to ask  the questions that others shy away from. I want to give people the chance to express their feelings, to be listened to without judgment, and when the time is right, to absorb new ways of coping.

My Accreditation:

  • Bachelor of Social Work (La Trobe University)

  • Bachelor of Arts – Social Sciences (La Trobe University)

  • Graduate Certificate in Grief and Bereavement Counselling and Intervention (Australian Centre for Grief and Bereavement)

  • Advanced Certificate of Relational Gestalt Counselling (Gestalt Therapy Australia)

  • Advanced Clinical Training in Gestalt Psychotherapy (Gestalt Therapy Australia)

Professional Experience

While providing therapy is my passion, it is only one chapter of my career story.

As a young Social worker, I started out working with people with epilepsy, and later moved on to support people with MS. I learned here about the value of information and education for all involved, but also about the parts of chronic illness which are hard to talk about. I found that:

  • the fear and uncertainty,

  • the reactions of others,

  • the grief that we experience each time we show resilience,

  • the invisibility of symptoms

all impact the person affected, but also the lives of partners, carers and friends. I work with people to minimise this impact.

As a person with lived experience of both disability and life-limiting illness, I am committed to principles of inclusion and diversity.  I have the privilege of working as a Local Area Coordinator in the NDIS space, where again, the right information and support is key to people having the ability to link in with the services that they need.
